Romans 9-11

Romans 9-11

the wisdom of God

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
“For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has become His counselor?”
“Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?”
For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things,
to whom be glory forever.
Amen.

Romans 11:33-36

As my book, How the Bible Defines: Election, has increased distribution, some have asked if I’ve written anything on Romans 9-11. I haven’t published anything, but I am working on it. However, I’m a slow writer. Rather than wait until I get another book out, I thought it might be helpful to work on publishing my thoughts on my website.

It seems to me that we can gauge our understanding of Romans 9-11 based on how close our response to the theme of the passage matches the enthusiasm and wonder of Paul’s expression – “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” However, it’s rare that our Bible teaching brings the audience to the same awe as Paul expresses, which indicates that we fall short in grasping the truth of Romans 9-11.

At the risk of sounding presumptuous, I think I’ve begun to enter into the wonder of what Paul saw. Of course, I do not come close to fully mining the depths of the wisdom and knowledge of God, but I can see far enough to reverently say, Wow – that’s incredible! It’s hard to wrap my mind around what God has purposed and accomplished, and it will be even harder for me to convey the wonder through written words. May the Lord aid us in our understanding and appreciation of what great things He has done.
